Sailing on the GrevelingenMeer – Wind, islands and nice villages

With Kaat, Danielle, Marie-Christine, Caroline and Koen, I spent last weekend exploring the GrevelingenMeer on board of a Oceanis 40 – AquaHolics rented at aquavitesse.

The wind was strong – between 4 and 5 Beaufort on both days – and allowed us to sail around quite fast. In the more narrow channels, we had to tack every minute and the crew improved their sailing skills.

Leaving Bruinisse Aquadelta on Saturday morning, we were hit by a severe rain cloud- Koen was the only one to remain outside to steer our Oceanis 40. We enjoyed lunch in Den Osse and left the pontoon without using the engine to exercise manoeuvring skills. After a new ballad in the Grevelingenmeer, we finished the day in Brouwershaven. The charm of the old harbour conquered everyone.

On Sunday – a new trip between the islands – see the chart below brought bus back to Bruinisse.

I’m always amazed by the magic of sailing – people naturally get along on a boat although they probably wouldn’t on earth !

One more sailing weekend to go before the transatlantic !
